Position: Toolroom Manager - 45223
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (DOE)
Toolroom manager required to join a well-established Injection Moulding company based in Birmingham. The successful candidate will comes from a Toolmaker background and have some form of senior experience behind them.
Toolroom manager Job Overview
- Oversee daily toolroom operations, including scheduling, prioritising, and task delegation.
- Lead and support toolmakers and machinists, providing training and performance feedback.
- Manage workflow through the toolroom, including material ordering, progress monitoring, schedule updates, and issue resolution.
- Work with internal teams to develop and improve tooling designs that meet quality and production needs.
- Coordinate fabrication, repair, and maintenance of tooling such as moulds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Manage relationships with subcontract toolmakers and external partners.
- Ensure full compliance with safety standards and best practices.
- Monitor tooling inventory and work with procurement to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Implement TPM and preventive maintenance in line with IATF requirements.
- Analyse production data to identify process and efficiency improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and equipment manuals.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, productivity, and operations.
- Perform additional ad-hoc duties when required.
Toolroom manager Job Requirements
- Have experience of managing a Toolroom, however applications are welcome from Toolroom foremen, Supervisors and Team-leaders.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a toolroom or manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of leadership and time-served technical expertise, with a background in Injection Mould Tooling.
- Have a background in both new tooling and maintenance/repair.
- Strong knowledge of tooling materials, manufacturing processes, and machining techniques.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
- Experience with CNC machining, EDM, grinding, and other conventional toolroom equipment and processes.
